1) Vigilance and Caution Regarding Intellectual Property (IP) Protection

Dear Members of the AIT Community,

I am writing to bring to your attention an important matter that requires our collective vigilance and caution regarding Intellectual Property (IP) protection. We must acknowledge that there are individuals, including some business persons, who may not prioritize ethical or IP considerations and engage in activities that pose a risk to our institution's intellectual property. One area of vulnerability is the unpublished portions of thesis works, which can be targeted by those seeking to exploit intellectual property.

It is important to recognize that this is not an issue unique to AIT and is a challenge faced by institutions worldwide. Therefore, we must remain extremely cautious and vigilant in safeguarding our intellectual property. As a community, we must collectively work together to protect our valuable assets, and I urge you to report any concerns or suspicious activities promptly.

By working together and remaining vigilant, we can uphold the integrity of our research and innovations.

3) Update on alarming trash recovery during Campus Walk for Campus Clean-Up !

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the 20 participants who generously contributed their time to the "Campus Walk for a Clean Campus" endeavor on last friday 16 February 2024, despite the challenges posed by air pollution. Special thanks are owed to the AITIS teachers and AITIS kids who volunteered for the walk, as well as to the Student Representative team for their unwavering support to OSC in organizing this campus activity.

A brief recap of the event reveals that we were divided into 4 groups and embarked on a comprehensive campus walk, covering a significant portion of the residential area. To our astonishment, we gathered over 25 kg of litter from the roadside. Participants were also educated on proper waste segregation techniques.

Regrettably, our findings uncovered some alarming waste items, prompting OSC to share this update with the community to encourage a heightened sense of responsibility in maintaining our green campus:

  1. Over 50 discarded face masks
  2. Numerous rat traps laden with contaminated waste
  3. Thermocol and cardboard boxes
  4. Wrappers from finger food packages and plastic bottles and cans
  5. Substantial amounts of tissues and plastic fragments
  6. Empty vehicle lubricant bottles, many other items

4) Bad Air Quality on Campus

Dear AIT Community,

I regret to inform you that the PM2.5 levels on the AIT campus have reached an unhealthy level. This poses potential health risks, especially for kids (AITIS) and individuals with respiratory conditions or other underlying health issues. 

Action Required:

  • Limit Outdoor Activities: We strongly advise everyone to limit outdoor activities, particularly strenuous exercises, during this period.
  • Stay Indoors: If possible, stay indoors to reduce exposure to the polluted air. Ensure that windows and doors are closed to minimize the influx of outdoor air.
  • Use Air Purifiers: Consider using air purifiers in enclosed spaces to help reduce indoor air pollution. Ensure that the purifiers are properly maintained and filters are clean.
  • Wear Masks: If you need to go outside, wearing a mask (preferably N95 or equivalent) can provide additional protection against inhaling particulate matter.
  • Stay Informed: Keep yourself informed about the current air quality levels by checking local air quality monitoring stations near AIT:

1) Invitation to participate in the International Conference on “Gender, Geopolitics and Forced Migration,” 04-05 March 2024

Greetings from the Centre on Cender and Forced Displacement (CGFD) at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand.
It is our immense pleasure to invite you to participate in the International Conference on “Gender, Geopolitics and Forced Migration” to
be held on 04-05 March 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand. The conference marks International Women’s Month 2024 to “Inspire Inclusion” to
forge Gender Equality by arguing for a gender-sensitive approach to geopolitics in international relations, foreign policy making and national
politics.
Taking feminist perspectives on war, conflicts, displacements, migration, and peace, the three-fold objectives of the conference are:
1. To Investigate the gendered assumptions/stereotypes in the study of forced migration, displacements, international relations, and national
and foreign policy making, including their explicit geopolitical and biopolitical reasoning and how political spatialization renders women
and vulnerable groups even more vulnerable.
2. To examine the implications of militarized notions of territorial citizenship, using the masculinist ideas of power, space, and security and
feminine representations of peace, security, and victimhood.
3. To explore how the practical everyday implications of geopolitics and biopolitics and their intersectionalities impact the causes and
consequences of displacements.
Against this backdrop, the conference intends to address the following questions:
1. How is excessive geopolitics affecting the vulnerable sections of the population in the region? Is it making women even more
marginalized in the public sector?
2. Can geopolitics address the situation of the Afghans, Rohingyas, and Palestinians, for example? Is there a gender dimension to
this problem?
3. Can geopolitical considerations affect the private, too, or are they acutely felt only in the public domains?
4. It is said that toxic geopolitics and noxious masculinity come together in moments of neocolonialism. How does it affect IDPs
and the Stateless?
5. Can peace and security be crafted without gender sensitivities?
Keeping these questions in mind, the four panels for the conference are:
1. Gender, Geopolitics, and Internal Displacements
2. Gender and Geopolitics within the Rubrics of Citizenship and Statelessness
3. Geopolitics and Biopolitics: Everyday Experiences of the Displaced
4. Gender, Geopolitics and Forced Displacements: Cases from Other Regions
