News from the AIT Main Campus Rebuilding and Upgrading Committee meeting on October 17, 2004

Library Modernization Project: Completion date is now February 18, 2015.

The completion date for the Library Modernization has been pushed back two months to February 18, 2014. According to OFAM and the campus architect, the delay is due to the decision to incorporate some new features into the overall design, such as a multimedia center.   

1.  Status of Flood Affected Renovation Projects: (Source: OFAM)

 

2.  New Investment Scheme for flood affected units of Faculty and Staff / Accommodation for AIT Employees (Source OFAM)

As agreed by the committee, AIT employees can finance the renovation of their flood affected units where a 5% interest rate will be given on the investment for a period of 3 years. OFAM was assigned by the committee to work on the details which will be announced later.

3.  Facilities and Infrastructure (Source OFAM)

As part of the flood insurance claims that was transferred to the General Reserve Fund by the former Administration, the President will seek the approval of the Board of Trustees to transfer it back to the Flood Insurance Renovation Fund which will be used for restoration of electrical systems, chiller plant, roads, water pipeline, sewage system, and others.

Campus Notes

New Head of  OFAM – Mr. Jaistit Khemabhirom

Mr. Jaistit Khemabhirom joined AIT as the new Head of Office of the Facilities and Asset Management (OFAM) on 20 October 2014. 

Mr. Jaistit Khemabhirom, a Thai national, completed his master's degree in Architecture from the Northeastern University, USA. He had been working in the field of property management and business development prior to joining AIT.

Handover ceremony of the sponsorship cheque by UNOCAL Myanmar Offshore Co., Ltd. ("Chevron")

A Non-Charitable Grant Agreement between UNOCAL Myanmar Offshore Co., Ltd. ("Chevron") and AIT was signed effective 1 July 2014 to support 2 Myanmar students studying in the Master’s degree program in Telecommunications and Structural Engineering, School of Engineering & Technology (SET).

The handover ceremony of the sponsorship cheque will be held on Monday, 27 October 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in room 260, Admin Building.

Thai Pipe Scholarship at AIT for Cambodian National in January 2015 Intake

Thai Pipe Industry Co., Ltd., the leader in manufacturing of PVC products and to become one of the leading PVC pipe manufacturers in the world, is offering a scholarship covering tuition and registration fees for a Cambodian national for the January 2015 Intake. SU organizes a grand trip to Um Phang District, Tak Province

AIT Academic Calendar 2015 now available at Registry

The Registry Office has informed that printed copies of the AIT Academic Calendar 2015 are now available at the Student Office. AIT faculty, staff members, and students can get your ordered copies during office hours.

NRM students’ study program trips

Students from Natural Resources Management FoS, SERD, will make a half-day trip to the Royal Chitralada Agricultural Project, Chitralada Villa, on 30 October 2014, as part of the study in the course ED76.05: Integrated Land Use Management Systems.

They will also make a three-day trip (from 31 October to 2 November) to Huai Sai Royal Project, Khuan Phet Irrigation Office, the Sirindhorn International Environmental Park (SIEP), Land Development Station, Integrated Farm, Kaeng Krachan National Park, Forest Exploration (Trail Walking) and Kaeng Krachan National Park, Phetchaburi Province. The study trip is part of the course ED76.02: Natural Resources Management Issues in Asia.

Events

2-Week UN Winter School on Sustainable Consumption and Production in Asia and the Pacific

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and its partners, United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), is organizing a 2-week Winter School Program on sustainable consumption and production (SCP) on 7-20 December 2014.

The Program is expected to improve the knowledge of future decision makers in the area of Sustainable Consumption and Production and contribute to the design and implementation of policies, business models, and practices that can promote sustainable resource management in a life-cycle perspective for goods and services produced and used by governments, business, and civil society.

Only 5 seats are available. Interested applicants are asked to fill out the application package by no later than 15 November 2014 and send to deanserd@ait.asia .
